Instructions & Training

Do not train to maintain, train to Evolve!

There is no doubt that owning firearms these days is important. You never know when you may have to use it. The State of Texas, up to this point, has been proactive about keeping our gun rights at the forefront. With the passing of the Open Carry Bill, many people that would not concealed carry due to licensing, are now carrying firearms daily. And there is nothing wrong with that, that is their Constitutional right. But, how many of those people who carry are proficient with those weapons? How many of those really know how to use them?

Firearms training is important. It’s not like riding a bicycle. There are skills, techniques, actions that need to be taken that you can only get from continuous training. If you are going to carry a firearm daily, for your protection, your family’s protection, and protection of those around you, it doesn’t do you any good if you can’t proficiently use it. Some say that are too busy and don’t have time. There are drills that you can do in 10 minutes, 3 times a week, that will help you to become more proficient. You’ll be glad you took that time should the situation ever arise.

Check your local area for any training facilities. Focus on those that offer handgun proficiency classes. Some facilities offer situational training such as Active Shooter training. These classes are great to take just to have the knowledge. Many of the combat handgun classes are great because they train you to act under pressure. Those are my favorite. Once you get comfortable with your side arm, look into rifle training classes. Carbine classes that most tactical training centers offer will teach you to swap between your primary (your rifle) and your secondary (your pistol), and how to do that effectively.

If you are local to the Jacksonville/Tyler/Henderson Texas areas, we highly recommend Pilgrim Defense Training in Ponta, Texas. You will get personal training in a small group setting. The trainers are awesome and extremely knowledgeable. And they offer entry level classes up to long range shooting classes.

So with all that said, take the time to train. Not to maintain, but to Evolve. Go Get Some!!
